The main goal of the project is to show one of the possible applications of the Octowide digital light modules. This modules can be purchased on Ebay with wattages of 1W, 2W, 3W and 2 different color temperatures: Warm White 2700K and Cold White 5000K.

Each module has multiple pads to solder wires and/or connect to other modules. On each side you can find 12V / GND / 3.3V Signal to connect to a uC (like the Arduino) and PWM control each module (or group of modules).

In this application we used 4 modules (2 Warm / 2 Cold White) so that we could tweak the color temperature also.

You will find all the technical details regarding the Octowide Light digital modules on the datasheet, available at: http://www.octowide.com/octowide-light-datasheet-en.pdf

EXPANDED TECHNICAL DETAILS

Large-Scale Lighting Control

Octowide is a high-power 8-channel lighting controller designed for architectural installations or stage lighting.

  • High-Current DC Hub: Manages 8 independent LED channels, each capable of drawing up to 3A, using high-performance IRFZ44N MOSFETs. The Arduino provides 8-bit PWM resolution on all channels for smooth, flicker-free dimming.
  • Multi-Scene Programming: The firmware includes pre-stored "Scenes" (e.g., Fade-All, Chase, Strobe) that can be triggered via a physical button or a Serial command from a smartphone.

Thermal Protection

  • Active Cooling Management: The Arduino monitors an LM35 temp sensor on the heatsink; if the temperature exceeds 65°C, it automatically throttles the PWM duty cycle to protect the MOSFETs.
