This is a prototype that measures distances in inches and in meters. It uses an HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor and an Arduino Uno to measure the distances, and then it prints the distances on a SparkFun Micro OLED breakout.

A technical blueprint for building a compact, handheld distance meter that provides high-resolution graphical feedback on a micro-OLED display.

  • Precision Sonar Pulse Timing: The Arduino manages the HC-SR04 trigger/echo cycle with microsecond resolution. The firmware calculates the distance and provides a real-time update rate of 20Hz.
  • SparkFun Micro-OLED Graphics Library: Uses the specialized SparkFun library to render not just numbers, but also a "Live Bar Graph" showing proximity. This provides an intuitive sense of "Closing Speed" when moving toward an object.
