When we use typical static solar plates, a great amount of solar energy is wasted because of the angle of the sun. Using this system we can move the solar plates according to the sun, harvesting more and more solar energy.
EXPANDED TECHNICAL DETAILS
Automatic Solar Orientation
This project provides a robust solution for maximizing solar panel efficiency by keeping them pointed directly at the sun throughout the day.
- Differential Light Sensing Matrix: Uses two LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) sensors separated by a physical "Shadow Divider." The Arduino captures the analog voltage from both sensors; if one is brighter than the other, it indicates the sun has moved.
- Servo Compensation Drive: The Arduino outputs corrective PWM signals to a high-torque servo motor. The firmware iteratively moves the solar panel until the light levels on both LDRs are equal, ensuring perfect solar alignment.
Power Efficiency
- Hysteresis Thresholding: Includes a software "Dead-Zone" to prevents the servos from jittering due to minor cloud movement or atmospheric flicker, extending the motor's lifespan and reducing self-consumption.
