The ECG SmartApp device is a low cost device to record, process and store ECG signals. It can be built easily in less than 1 hour (http://www.ecgsmartapp.altervista.org/). The device is composed of a hardware board (based on AD8232 and Arduino board) to acquire the ECG signals from the body and an Android App to record, process and store the signals.

Portable Cardiographic Telemetry

EcgSmartApp is a medical-grade prototyping tool that captures and visualizes the human heart's electrical activity on a mobile device.

  • Biopotential Analog Front-End: Uses an AD8232 heart rate monitor module. The Arduino captures the minute voltage changes from three limb electrodes, filtering out muscle noise and 60Hz power-line interference.
  • Real-Time Waveform Streaming: The Arduino R-wave data is transmitted via Bluetooth to the custom EcgSmartApp. The mobile app renders a live, scrolling ECG graph and calculates the occupant's Beats Per Minute (BPM).

Reliability

  • Safety Isolated Power: Detailed the use of a battery-only power source for the Arduino during use to ensure the user is galvanically isolated from the mains power grid.
