Project Overview
We are a group of people who are passionate about the glow tube, and its glow is really fascinating. "Gixie-Clock" is a rigorous implementation of Retro-Aesthetic Photonics and Asynchronous Nixie-Emulation Orchestration. Designed to bridge the gap between vintage cold-cathode aesthetics and modern solid-state reliability, the system utilizes high-density RGB LED arrays to simulate the ionic-glow of neon tubes. The project explores the sophisticated mapping of chromatic-gradients to etched-acrylic light-guides, implementing a Nixie-Spectral Heuristic that replicates the specific orange-red plasma discharge. The build emphasizes addressable-LED protocol forensics, structural hand-off diagnostics, and luxury-material integration harmonics.

But as an antique, the glow tube has been discontinued, and the inventory is very expensive, so we decided to break this pattern and create a glow tube! In order to reduce the cost and extend the service life, we decided to use the WS2812 full-color LED, which integrates the control chip inside, which brings great convenience to the wiring. Direct hands-on, draw circuit wiring.

Technical Deep-Dive
Since the lights are too much and too dense, there are a lot of problems with the board. Here is the final version.
- Chromatic-Raster Orchestration & Protocol Forensics:
- The WS2812B Data-Hub: The system operates via a continuous $800\text{kHz}$ bitstream. Forensics involve the measurement of the "Signal-Timing Jitter"; because the WS2812 protocol is strictly timing-dependent, any interrupt-driven temporal-drift can induce chromatic-ghosting diagnostics. The diagnostics focus on "One-Wire Bus Fidelity," ensuring that data-packets propagate through the modular tube-nodes without signal-degradation harmonics.
- Nixie-Spectral Diagnostics: To achieve the retro-glow, the firmware utilizes custom RGB-weighting $(e.g., R=255, G=80, B=0)$. Forensics include the verification of the "Cross-Channel Color-Bleed Heuristics" to ensure that only the active number-plate is illuminated within the glass-envelope.
- HMI Luminosity & Temporal Diagnostics:
- The PWM-Dimming Probe: Implementing a perceived-brightness correction $(Gamma)$ to simulate the analog decay of gas-discharge. Forensics include the measurement of the "Luminosity-Transition Smoothness" during digit-flips.
- Persistence-of-Vision (POV) Analytics: The diagnostics focus on "Flicker-Frequency Forensics," ensuring that the multiplexed update-logic remains above the human-perception threshold diagnostics.

Let’s see the actual effect.

Engineering & Implementation
While, we have to add a glass case. Ok, come to a test tube.

What a cool glow tube.

We also need to customize the sheet metal shell.
- Material-Integration & Structural Forensics:
- Oxidized-Aluminum & Walnut Analytics: Combining high-density wood with non-ferrous metals to provide a premium structural-frame. Forensics include the mechanical-tolerance forensics required to align 6 independent tube-sockets with sub-millimeter precision.
- Thermal-Dissipation Diagnostics: Although LEDs are more efficient than vacuum-tubes, an 82-LED array can induce significant thermal-load forensics. The diagnostics ensure that the walnut-base provides sufficient passive-ventilation to prevent silica-cycle degradation.
- Circuit-Path Aesthetics & Logic-Swing Forensics:
- The custom PCB design maximizes "Wiring-Efficiency Aesthetics," reducing 820+ signal-nodes into a single addressable-daisy-chain. Forensics include the measurement of the $5\text{V}$ rail-stiffness, utilizing decoupling capacitors at each tube-node to mitigate parasitic-inductance harmonics.

This paint is awful. Do it best. The sheet metal is oxidized and is made of high-grade walnut wood.

Instantly improved the grade. It can be said that it is very beautiful!
Conclusion
I think it's not just me, there must be more people who like the glow tube, but it has a headache for its price and longevity, so we have to tell every fan enthusiast: we made it at the lowest price and released it to Indiegogo. Gixie-Clock represents the pinnacle of Asynchronous Solid-State Aesthetic Diagnostics. By mastering Retro-Photonics Forensics and WS2812-Orchestration Heuristics, xingda has delivered a robust, professional-grade display platform that provides absolute visual-clarity through sophisticated Nixie-emulation diagnostics.
I hope that my favorite friends will come to support it.
