how-to-write-a-draft-for-an-essay-latest-guide-2022-06f583-en.md

Writing a draft for the first time is a huge challenge because students do not know how to begin. I felt the same when I started and I’m sure many of you can relate.

A student can often be found sitting at his desk wondering, “How do I write my essay?” He knows everything but the anxiety of starting the essay makes him forget everything. It is perfectly normal to feel that way. All you need to do is start writing a draft. A draft is a preliminary version of your essay or any piece of writing.

It usually needs further improvement and proofreading. It is an extension of the main essay but in a raw form.

Now, let's move on to writing a draft.

There are a few steps that you should be aware of when writing a draft:

1. Choose a topic:

It’s self-explanatory that writing an essay always starts with choosing a topic. I suggest carefully choosing a topic that allows you to research extensively.

2. Freewrite

Write as much as you can because a draft isn’t the finalized version of your essay so, don’t think your draft has to be perfect. Note down important points but don’t forget to organize them properly.

This will enable you to remove what is irrelevant and add relevant information to the essay during the editing process. Freewriting is also helpful in noting down important points that you might forget.

3. Create an Outline

A draft also has an introduction, body, and conclusion. I suggest you give headings and remove them later on because essays usually don’t have headings, but they can be helpful for you to remember what goes where.

I suggest you draw an outline of the body paragraphs as well so that you know what to add and remove later on.

Still, feeling confused? Just hang in there. I have other tips to share with you guys as well.

4. Start writing

It is time for you to forget everything and write what you know. Dive into it and don’t stop until you know you have written enough. Don’t worry about perfection because you will get time for it in the end.

Don’t worry about the mistakes that you have made during the writing process because, as I said, you will have time to edit the paper later. Write your thesis statement at the end of the introductory paragraph.

The thesis statement should be basic for now because you might edit your paragraphs and chances are, you might have to change it to match it with the body paragraphs later on.

Take help from your peers or teachers if you are worried about writing a thesis statement. You can take help from an essay writer if you have to.

Don’t feel bad about taking help but make sure you learn how they do it. Trust me, this will help you in the long run.

Write down as much as you can and if you have to include research from outside sources, do it and don’t cite it yet, just add a little note that will help you remember to share your argument later on with much clarity.

Mark the sentence with the name of the author or title of the paper so that you know where you have to add your in-text citation. I know you will cite the correct sources during the editing process using this trick.

5. Overview

It is not the final step but a crucial step nonetheless. It is time that you sit back and relax because there is a lot of editing coming up.

After you have written your rough draft, take a deep breath and start reading the paper from the beginning. This step is to analyze where you have gone wrong and what mistakes you have to rectify.

Take a good look at the paper, inspect it closely, and ask yourself some important questions. Is it all there? Have I missed anything? Do I need to add something? Is the introduction attention-worthy?

These questions will give you another perspective on the paper and you might be able to see what you couldn’t see previously while writing the paper. Keep reading and pointing out mistakes until you are sure that every important detail is in there.

Here is an important tip: take notes, and highlight them for better understanding, when you have to expand your paper. Expanding your paper can be easier if you use broader conclusions.

I get it that this process may seem tiring because you have to write, edit, and proofread until it’s nicely done, but if you have a tight schedule, I'd recommend seeking help from an essay writing service so that you have less to worry about when it comes to the quality of the essay. Don’t be shy to ask for help because sometimes, taking help can benefit you in the long run.

6. Proofreading

Proofreading is the last step of writing a draft. After you are done with your draft, it is time you proofread it. Read it twice or thrice so that you know you have covered everything. It means checking for any errors in your text before sharing your work or publishing it. It is done to remove any inconsistencies in the text for better readability. It usually involves focusing on surface errors.
