EXPANDED TECHNICAL DETAILS

Miniature Desktop CNC Architecture

Minimill is a functional, 3-axis CNC milling machine prototype designed for precision carving and circuit board fabrication.

  • G-Code Command Interpreter: The Arduino runs a modified version of GRBL. It receives standard industrial G-code via serial and translates it into high-speed step and direction pulses for the motor drivers.
  • Multi-Sensor Homing Matrix: Features "End-Stop" switches on all three axes (X, Y, Z). The Arduino uses these to perform a precise "Homing" routine upon startup, ensuring the machine always knows its exact physical position.

Accuracy

  • Sub-Millimeter Motion Kernel: Geared stepper motors are used to achieve a resolution of 0.05mm, allowing the Minimill to carve detailed graphics and mill tiny SMD circuit board traces with ease.
