High-Speed Optical Pathfinding

The Robotracer is a performance-optimized autonomous vehicle designed to navigate a complex line-path at maximum possible speeds.

  • Differential IR Sensing Matrix: Uses a series of 5 or more TCRT5000 IR reflectance sensors mounted at the front. The Arduino calculates the robot's offset from the line with high resolution.
  • PID Control Algorithm: Instead of simple "On/Off" steering, the firmware uses a PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) controller to smoothly adjust the speed of the left and right wheels, preventing jitter and overshooting on sharp curves.

Performance

  • PWM Motor Tuning: Uses high-frequency PWM to maintain the DC motors' torque even at low speeds, ensuring the robot can handle complex 90-degree intersections with precision.
