Kinetic Cyclist Communication
This advanced safety helmet uses embedded electronics to provide automated signaling and crash detection for urban cyclists.
- Orientation-Based Signaling: Features two high-intensity LED strips on the rear. The Arduino uses a tilt sensor or IMU to detect the rider's "Look-Over-Shoulder" or head-tilt; tilting the head to the left for 1 second automatically triggers the left turn signal.
- Latching Fall-Detection Alert: Monitors for high-G impacts using an accelerometer. If a crash is detected, the Arduino triggers a high-frequency acoustic beacon and can (optionally) send an SOS via a paired smartphone.
Design
- Low-Profile Component Hub: Detailed the use of an Arduino Nano or Pro Micro and a slim LiPo battery to maintain the helmet's aerodynamic profile and structural integrity.
