A switch/socket endurance tester is a device used to test the durability of a manufactured switch or socket, be it mechanically or electrically.

It is done by applying mechanical force (to toggle on and off the switch multiple times for a specified number of cycles, this is a mechanical test) or to apply current below, within and above the specified rating of the switch or socket (electrical endurance test/destructive test).

Industrial Mechanical Lifecycle Analytics

This project provides an automated "Stress Test" rig for evaluating the long-term reliability of physical switches, buttons, and electrical sockets.

  • Cycle-Controlled Servo Testing: The Arduino manages a high-torque servo or solenoid that physically toggles the target switch hundreds of thousands of times. The firmware records the "Total Cycles" in non-volatile memory.
  • Failure-Detection Feedback Loop: The Arduino simultaneously monitors the electrical continuity of the switch. If the switch fails to conduct current when pressed, the Arduino halts the test and records the exact cycle number of the failure.

Interaction

  • LCD Lifecycle Tracking: Displays the current "Test Progress" and "Expected Lifetime" on a 16x2 LCD, allowing engineers to walk away while the machine performs weeks of automated testing.
