For a group project we decided we wanted to make something functional which could potentially help those who routinely take medication by dispensing the right quantities at the right time.

EXPANDED TECHNICAL DETAILS

Healthcare Automation logic

The Pill Dispenser 1.0 is a smart medication management system designed to assist elderly users.

  • Dispensing Mechanism: A 3D-printed carousel or a tilting tray driven by a Stepper Motor to drop individual pills at scheduled times.
  • Scheduling: Relies on a DS3231 Real-Time Clock (RTC) to maintain accurate timing even if the power is lost.

User Safety & Alerts

  • Notification: When it's time to take a pill, the system triggers a Buzzer and a blinking LED.
  • Interactive UI: An I2C LCD displays instructions such as "Take Red Pill Now." The system can be configured to wait for a physical button press ("Medication Taken") before reset, or it can log the missed dose to an SD card for caregiver review.
