I created a vivarium that houses dart frogs. Subsequently, I discovered that environment parameters, especially temperature and humidity are critical for success. So, this project is designed to automate monitoring and controlling those critical factors. Monitor via built in web server and/or control/monitor via computer app that can be downloaded here.

EXPANDED TECHNICAL DETAILS

Bio-Stable Environmental Sentry

A high-performance controller designed to maintain a perfect, tropical environment for reptiles or plants in a Vivarium.

  • Closed-Loop Climate Mapping: The Arduino monitors Humidity/Temperature (DHT22) and Soil Moisture. The firmware runs a simplified PID loop to manage misting nozzles and heat lamps.
  • Visual Studio 2015 Telemetry Hub: The project includes a Windows-based dashboard developed in Visual Studio. It receives live serial data from the Arduino and provides a graphical view of the climate trends over the last 24 hours.

Performance

  • Verified with Arduino IDE: Optimized for 100% stability, with a "Critical Alert" siren that triggers if the temperature leaves the biology-safe range (e.g., 20°C - 35°C).
